Kate Americana

Story time! In my last post, I had mentioned that I met Venus and Lizzie (Big Hair Girls) at Afropunk the year before. Well, this is one of the shoots I had while I was in Brooklyn for that show. 

Meet Kate from Americana models. She’s dope and a bad ass model. Meet Nu Hotel, this super chill boutique hotel in Brooklyn. Quick side note but the service there was amazing so you should definitely stay there if you’re gonna be in that area. 

Anyway, this shoot is another instance of just doing it and not being afraid of reaching out to people. So this all came about because I decided to fly up to NYC a day before the rest of my crew was gonna get there. I wanted to have a night to myself and booked this really swanky room and decided to go for it. At the last minute, I decided that oh hey, can’t have a fun night in without throwing a photo shoot into the mix so I called my friend Danielle who lived in the city at the time and she gave me a list of agencies and models that she had worked with recently. Thanks to her, I got in contact with Americana models and within 2 hours was set up to do a test shoot for Kate the following day. 

The next day, Kate showed up at the hotel prepared with 10 different outfits and we got to shooting. And we got a little too engrossed in shooting that we completely forgot to do any outfit changes. Whoops. But it all turned out alright and we got some amazing natural light shots in the room.
