It's 3am and I'm in the Miami baggage claim when I bump into acquaintances. This is the story of that encounter. Check it out!

I had met Venus and Lizzie of Big Hair Girls at Afropunk the year before so I was surprised as hell to see two big bright colourful afros at the Miami baggage claim terminal that early in the morning/night. At first, I thought was hallucinating from lack of sleep because what are the odds, but it was them. And I was able to kick my brain into gear to (sort of )intelligently ask to shoot with them.

The conversation went more like “Unnnghg, you’re here. ggWhy? Let’s shoot.” And we did. The next day we got together and shot. 

Moral of this story is to not be afraid to approach people. I wasn’t even sure if they would remember who I was, let alone be interested in working with me. But Venus and Lizzie are two of the sweetest people I have worked with and we had so much fun roaming around their friend’s condo building shooting. 

We even got invited to the wedding celebration that was going on at the restaurant next door. And was given scovies by the event planner. It was definitely a series of interesting events but that’s the best part of shooting outside of a studio-you never know what’s going to happen.
