Nico is one of those people. What originally started out as just a shoot, turned into 3 hour chill set where we discussed philosophy, the black lives matter movement, and activism in the black community. This conversation had the most fitting backdrop of being in the North side of St. Louis in a neighborhood working to rebuild. On one block there is a local grocer a historic candy shop and a bunch of burgeoning black-owned gallery spaces. On the other blocks are rows and rows of burnt out houses and warehouses (a pretty common sight in St. Louis).
Some would say this area is depressing but Nico and I both agreed that it was hopeful. And that this neighborhood was a beautiful example of the black community rising up and forward.
Long story short, as I’ve said multiple times, a photo shoot is not always just a shoot. In this case it turned into a quiet moment of introspection and exploration caught on camera.
Enjoy…
