I have so much fun doing these art-focused collaborative shoots. Especially shoots like this one where it started with a pretty basic concept and grew from there.
This one all came to life when my painter friend, Ross, brought up the idea of doing a Frida Kalho inspired shoot. Of course, I was immediately on board with that. From there, the idea grew to incorporate Ross’ sister, Bloom, who is an amazingly talented sing/songwriter and a 25 foot braided chain of hair. Somewhere, (probably about the same time that we were braiding all that hair), we decided to not do a straight forward Frida shoot. We decided to shoot Frida Kalho, as if she were a 20-something year old pair of conjoined black girls living in St. Louis.
Thus Fridicia was born!
Enjoy.
